Heating water for milking parlours can be very expensive. Clean Energy Ireland supply and install solar panels and preheat solar cylinders for individual dairy washing requirements.
Grant Support
Under the SEI managed Reheat grant programme, support of up to 30% of eligible costs is availabe for capital investment projects.
Grant Eligibility Criteria
There are eligibility criteria with which an application must comply:
The applicant must have had a feasibility study or design study done to determine the appropriate size and type of heating system. (Clean Energy will complete this)
Technical criteria including standards for each technology as listed in the Application Guide. (Clean Energy Ireland will complete this)
The applicant must have a valid Tax Clearance Certificate.
Why install Solar in Milking Parlours?
Solar thermal is the cleanest form of renewable energy; it is also economic, contributing up to 80% of the milking parlour’s Bulk tank and milking machine hot water requirement during the milking season. Depending on your hot water demands and your current primary energy source a solar package has a payback period of approx 6 years. While this may seem a long time the useful life of the package should exceed 30 years.
Design for Your Requirements.
We make installation recommendations to our farming customers based on the following factors:
Average daily hot water demands (current/futuristic).
Best available south facing solar panel mounting locations.
Potential for shading from buildings or trees.
Distance from solar panels and preheat cylinder.
Solar Collectors: Our collectors are German designed and manufactured to the highest industry standards. We have tested and selected the best performing solar technology in the market place.
Our collectors can be mounted on-roof or on brackets against gable or on a flat surface. Our fixing mechanisms are designed for aggressive Irish weather conditions and suitable for various roof finishes.
Preheat Solar Cylinder:
We supply stainless steel (2304 Duplex) factory insulated cylinders with the following capacities:
There is a solar heat exchange coil fitted at the base of the cylinder for the maximum utilisation of the solar panels. There is a 3kw immersion fitted as standard. While the cylinder has been tested to 15 bar during assembly it has a max working pressure of 6 bar. The cylinders are insulated with rigid polyurethane and the outer surface is mild steel with a white wipe clean plastic coated finish and a corrosion resistant base. There is a 25 year manufacturer’s guarantee with the cylinder. Country of origin: England.

Solar Controller:
We supply a range of solar controllers, one to suit each solar configuration. They automatically manage the operation of the solar thermal system. Monitoring the temperature of the collector and the cylinder, the controller activates the circulation pump only when the difference in temperature will provide efficient heating to the hot water. Our solar controllers monitor and display the temperatures produced at the collector and the cylinder. Country of origin: Germany.
